Back at Sagana Safe & Sound

Simon just checked in to say that they are back at Sagana and had an epic trip up and down the mountain. The bikes sound like they took a bit of beating, but nothing catastrophic. I can not wait to see the video and photos from the trip! Everyone will be checking in tomorrow, so stay tuned for more info coming soon.

Climbing Mt Kenya - Day one

We have a special treat today; everyone is sounding in on the trip so far

Cindy: hey everyone! This trip has been wicked awesome so far and it's getting better each day!

Dave: hey guys! What a day! What a view from 10 000 feet.

Tate: fantastic first day on the mountain! The size of this hill is truly amazing, can't wait to drag my a$$ to the top!

Kendra: This experience in Kenya has been incredible so far! Had a taste of downhilling already and can't wait to see what tomorrow brings with a great group of people.

Andy: What an awesome trip so far. The wildlife in the Masai was amazing, pics to follow. Miss you all and see you all soon. (Megs)

Simon;

A totally styling day, got to Judimer in really good time, then went and ripped a few downhill runs before an awesome sunset. Looking forward to the days ahead.

We may lose cell reception for the next day or so, so next update will likely be from the summit....

Getting Ready for Mt Kenya

Simon reports: "Well we are just finalizing the last of the packing before heading up Mt Kenya.

We should be on the mountain hiking about 1pm kenya time. We have shortish (4 hour) day ahead of us with an elevation gain of 680 metres. We will have cell reception for the next 24 hours or so, so will report in again soon. We had a wicked rain storm down here at the river, so this bodes well for the kayaking in 5 days time"

It sure sounds like the group is just starting out on the more challenging part of the trip. I sure hope that the 3 days at the Mara rejuvenated them and any jetlag is a thing of the past. Good luck you guys!

Day Two at the Mara - October 29th

"We had an awesome day exploring the Masai Mara National Park, we saw cheetah, lion with kills, elephant, giraffe, cape buffalo and lots of wildebeest and zebra.
A skid place came part way off the bottom of the van, so everyone went to a nice lodge to have a drink while the mechanics welded it back on (I would say this is a right of passage in Kenya, no one escapes having some sort of vehicle drama!)
All in all it was a great day, only 2 days to go until we start our adventure on Mount Kenya. Keep watching for these updates!"

Sounds like everyone is going to come home with some wicked photos of animals and some great stories to share. Have I mentioned how thrilled I am to be updating the blog instead of being there?:)

At the Masai Mara - October 28th

Well folks, I am jealous! While we sit at home, our friends are on a trip of a lifetime. I get to update blogs while they are touring the plains of Kenya.

Straight from simon:
"We went to a Masai Village, then did a two hour game drive. We saw 3 female lions, a bunch of elephants, some giraffe, wildebeest, and a plethora of antelopes (and not your garden variety North American kind) So all in all, a good first day of game viewing in the area of the Mara that is considered to have 'very few' animals! Stay tuned for more news"
